Frequently Asked Questions
Acupuncture is a core part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and East Asian Medicine. It is based on the Meridian System, Five Elements Theory, and the balance of Yin & Yang. Treatment focuses on the flow of Qi (Chi) through meridians (energy pathways) and specific acupoints (acupuncture points).
We offer several modalities, including traditional Chinese acupuncture, Japanese meridian therapy (Toyohari), electroacupuncture, auricular (ear) acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, Gua Sha, and nutritional counseling. We also provide integrative approaches for comprehensive care.
Yes, acupuncture is safe when performed by a licensed professional. Kathleen Burke, L.Ac., is fully licensed in Arizona (License #LAC-0010001), with over 20 years of experience and advanced certifications, including Acu Nova and Toyohari training. Only practitioners licensed by the Arizona Acupuncture Board can legally provide acupuncture in the state.
Acupuncture involves inserting fine, sterile needles into specific acupoints along the meridians to balance the flow of Qi (Chi), harmonize Yin & Yang, and support natural healing. It is recognized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and World Health Organization (WHO) for treating a variety of conditions.
The number of sessions depends on your condition and health goals. Acute issues may improve in a few visits, while chronic or complex issues often require ongoing care. We’ll create a personalized plan for you.
Most clients experience minimal to no pain. The needles are extremely thin, and most people find the sessions relaxing and often fall asleep.
During your initial appointment, you'll receive a thorough evaluation using TCM principles and discuss your health goals in detail, covering physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. You'll also be given at-home assignments to help support your treatment.
We do not bill insurance directly, but we can provide a superbill along with all codes and information you would need to submit to your insurance provider. Please confirm your coverage with your insurer.
